Apple Bashing
In the past, I have refrained from extensive ranting regarding my dislike of Apple on this blog. However, I have let my anti-Apple website (ismackmac.com) expire, so I guess I have to give a few reasons for my distain here…
First, understand that I used Apple products for many years, including one of the very first Macs. Therefore, my dislike/distain is not without experience. Also, my first computer business was founded on computer maintenance and repair. If you’re not aware of it, Apple doesn’t look kindly on anyone working on their systems. Parts and access for Apple computer repair is gray market at best.
Second, as a power user, I like having control over most aspects of my computer…its hardware, software, OS, etc. Apple has created its aura by being basically a ‘sandbox’ environment, meaning you can only use their hardware, their software, and they block the user from doing many things behind the scenes of their OS. In Apple’s defense, these limitations are what create a very stable environment for their users. As long as the user only wants to do what Apple will let them do, then great!
Third, the ‘attitude’ of many Apple users is so over the top that it makes me much more anti-Apple. The ‘Apple Just Works’ mantra is so frustrating…because as a tech support person I know that is not true. With many of my clients, the Apple products require about 75% more attention than the Windows based products. Plus, there’s the fact that Apple only has about a 9% market share while Windows has about an 88% share.
Please understand that I don’t bleed blue (Microsoft). MS has its own problems, but they aren’t at the same level as Apple’s. I’m all about Linux and other OSes as well…but when I am working in a business that requires collaboration with others, I recommend using equipment/software that has the majority marketshare.
There…that’s all I have to say for now…
